Reiki has become part of the culture of Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
The gentle hands-on treatment, thought by practitioners to help release the body’s natural powers, is offered to the hospital’s surgical patients during registration. It is also offered by certified practitioners in almost every in-patient service throughout the hospital.
Reiki came to Portsmouth Regional in 1995, when Patricia Alandydy, a longtime registered nurse in the operating room, approached the administration to begin incorporating integrative care services especially for surgical patients.
… “I wanted to bring back a sense of compassion and touch” [Alandydy said].
