A new report from wellness-industry technology platform company MINDBODY ranks the top 10 healthiest cities in the U.S. according to factors like exercise, rest, sleep, nutrition, alcohol consumption and spirituality.

The report may be downloaded here, to learn more about residents’ health in specific locations.

For example, the “Healthiest Cities in America: 2020 MINDBODY Wellness Index” indicated that 69% of residents of Miami get integrative health services including massage and chiropractic, at least once annually.

That’s one reason Miami tops the list as the healthiest city. Other factors that put this Florida city on top are residents’ exercise habits (80% work out at least once a week) and use of salon and spa services (31%).

The 10 Healthiest Cities

What are the other nine healthiest cities in the U.S.? The top 10 are ranked here:

1. Miami, FL

2. Atlanta, GA

3. San Francisco, CA

4. Denver, CO

5. Austin, TX

6. Seattle, WA

7. Washington, DC

8. Tampa, FL

9. Minneapolis, MN

10. Raleigh, NC

“Our research validates that health and wellness is on the rise in hundreds of communities across the country, and these 10 cities exemplify that trend,” said Rick Stollmeyer, MINDBODY CEO and co-founder, in a press release.

The report also illuminates some of the less-healthy behaviors throughout the U.S.; for example, Oklahoma City, OK, is the most sleep-deprived, with just 38% of residents getting a full night’s sleep; and Detroit, MI, has the highest percentage of cigarette smokers.

5 Wellness Trends

MINDBODY also identified five wellness trends to look out for in 2020: experiential wellness, lash services, nap bars/pods, emotional wellness, and recovery services.

MINDBODY has also published the report, 2020 Fitness Trends in America, and will release additional reports on fitness, beauty and grooming and spa/med spa, all of which are derived from the MINDBODY Wellness Index.
