Reps. Velázquez (D-NY) and Pitts (R-PA) to Introduce Legislation Helping Millions of Americans Gain Heath Care Coverage
Bipartisan Bill Melds Elements From Plans of Both Presidential Candidates
WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Wednesday, July 23rd at 3:00 pm, Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez of the House Small Business Committee will hold a press briefing to unveil new healthcare legislation helping American entrepreneurs bridge the expanding healthcare gap. The legislation will be known as the Small Business “Cooperative for Healthcare Options to Improve Coverage for Employees” (Small Business CHOICE) Act of 2008. It allows small businesses— who make up 99% of all employers and more than 50% of the private-sector workforce—to form health insurance cooperatives. The move stems the volatility of insurance premiums and makes coverage more affordable for entrepreneurs and their employees. The bill also creates important incentives for small businesses to provide the families of their workers with expanded coverage.
