July 11, 2018 – The San Francisco Marathon and Biofreeze, the No. l clinically recommended topical pain reliever, today announced a three-year partnership, with Biofreeze assuming the role of Title Sponsor of both The San Francisco Marathon and The Berkeley Half Marathon. Biofreeze also will play a leading role in the year-round RUN365 training and club program. The newly named Biofreeze San Francisco Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, July 29.
This new partnership is powered by a collective commitment to fuel individuals’ goals and to empower runners to achieve their personal bests. “Biofreeze is the fast-acting secret weapon runners turn to when they need to overcome sore muscles and stiffness,” said Michael McGoohan, Chief Marketing Officer of Performance Health, makers of Biofreeze.
“We’re delighted that we can now call The San Francisco Marathon The Biofreeze San Francisco Marathon and join the 27,500 race participants in running their best race,” said McGoohan. “San Francisco is home to innovation and people with health-conscious lifestyles who use their leisure time to take advantage of the spectacular natural beauty of the Bay Area. It’s a market we think is a perfect fit for Biofreeze.”
Today, the Marathon and Biofreeze unveil the new logo for the 2018 Marathon, designed to commemorate the new partnership and symbolize the strength and beauty of San Francisco in conjunction with the power and transformative ability of Biofreeze.
This year’s race will feature the new Biofreeze interactive digital cheer boards, bringing the community closer to the runners than ever before. Personalized messages can be made on social media and tagged with the bib number of a designated runner, encouraging and pushing them on their journey to the finish line. RFID technology will trigger the message through a timing chip each runner is given and will populate the message on course as the runner passes the digital board.
In addition to innovative digital ways of supporting runners, for the first time, Biofreeze products will be available on course to provide fast-acting relief. This will be located at mile 19 in the city’s Haight Ashbury neighborhood, where runners need the mental and physical stamina to push through to the final seven miles of the course.
“We are excited to welcome Biofreeze as our title sponsor in presenting The San Francisco Marathon,” said Cynthia Myers, Vice President of Marketing for The San Francisco Marathon and RUN365 properties. “Biofreeze is bringing new energy to the race at a time when marathon running continues to grow in popularity around the world.”
Named by ESPN as one of the most beautiful race courses in the world, featuring the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco’s famed waterfront, The Biofreeze San Francisco Marathon holds five races on one day, including the full marathon, two half marathons, an ultramarathon and a 5K.
