When Angie Patrick created the Massage Warehouse Sanctuary a half-decade ago, she envisioned an event that would provide funding to advance massage therapy research.

For the fifth year in a row, Massage Warehouse, where Patrick is director of massage business development and corporate sales, has joined with corporate partners to present Sanctuary, which in 2011 will benefit the Massage Therapy Foundation.

Sanctuary involves massage therapy provided at conventions and trade shows, with all proceeds donated to massage research organizations. Since its inception, Sanctuary has raised nearly $80,000 for the Massage Therapy Foundation, various research projects and the Touch Research Institute.

This year’s partners, who have committed to raising $10,000 for the foundation, are:

• Bon Vital, Performance Health, MASSAGE Magazine, Core Products, CranioCradle, Custom Craftworks, Earthlite, EvZone Music, Massage Today, Massage Warehouse, TH.Stone in conjunction with Sa-Wan, Soothing Touch and WR Medical/Therabath.

“Making the choice to support our industry in all the ways we can is our corporate responsibility,” said Patrick. “Our corporate partners feel the same, and share the love of massage. We bring Sanctuary to life in order to bring a community together and to educate them about the need for research.”

In 2011, Sanctuary events will be held at the American Massage Conference and the American Massage Therapy Association National Convention.
