Southern California, May 30, 2008: Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) announces its affiliation with Western Institute of Neuromuscular Therapy (WIN Therapy), provider of a nationally recognized massage therapy program.
This partnership expands the educational offerings of SCU in the field of complementary and alternative medicine by featuring WIN Therapy’s 1,000-hour certificate program that encompasses in-depth courses in relaxation therapy as well as clinical treatment. The comprehensive massage education provided by WIN Therapy focuses on preparing massage therapists to skillfully apply neuromuscular therapy and other techniques that deliver physiological effects beneficial to all of the systems of the body.
Melea Fields, Dean of the School of Professional Studies at SCU talks about the alliance with WIN Therapy, “This affiliation will provide students with an evidence based education that is the most comprehensive sports based massage therapy program in Southern California, delivered by a dedicated and highly trained faculty. In keeping with the mission of SCU, the affiliation with WIN Therapy will allow SCU/WIN Therapy to move forward as the premier institution for massage therapy training. ”
The partnership also brings WIN Therapy into a university setting, providing students with access to all of the services and academic resources of the SCU campus. Students are now able to learn the scientific basis for massage techniques that are effective for relief from pain and symptoms of a wide range of conditions, illnesses and injuries.
WIN Therapy founder Cynthia Ribeiro states the significance of the new relationship with SCU, “As a volunteer with the American Massage Therapy Association and a member of the Academic Consortium for Complementary and Alternative Health Care Professions, I have met thousands of massage therapists and worked with many health care educators across the country. These experiences have revealed to me that there is a great need and a great demand for in-depth massage therapy education. As a massage therapy educator for the past 21 years, I have prepared hundreds of students to excel as health care practitioners. By affiliating my school with SCU, I am giving my students not only a comprehensive program, but also access to the resources that only a university can offer. Students will enjoy the amenities of a pleasant campus, a great library, and support from a broad range of expert administrators and instructors. The affiliation of WIN Therapy with SCU is a powerful step forward on the path that massage therapy education must take, in order to prepare students to meet the expectations of their employers, clients, and the public.”
The Western Institute of Neuromuscular Therapy was founded in 1994 by Cynthia Ribeiro with the mission of offering a comprehensive, academic, and challenging program in the art and science of massage.
