Cortisol is an essential hormone that is secreted by the adrenal glands and assists the body in regulating blood pressure, glucose metabolism and immune function. Cortisol is generally at a higher level in the morning and lower in the evening. Stress can affect the amount of cortisol in the body and, thus, affect the immune system.
It is important to allow the nervous system to return to a state of relaxation after a stressful event. Here are some tips to cut down on the amount of cortisol that is released in your body, so you can keep your immune system functioning at the most optimal level.
- Meditate daily
- Listen to relaxing music
- Drink green tea
- Take a nap or get extra sleep
- Make a date with your friends
- Get a massage
- Get a dose of nature
- Do yoga
- Do breathing exercises
Stay fit and stay healthy!
