If you are experiencing chronic pain or limited physical function in your knee or hip, you may benefit from hydrotherapy or Tai Chi. In a recent study by The George Institute for International Health at the University of Sydney, subjects with hip or knee osteoarthritis saw significant improvements in pain and physical function after 12 weeks of hydrotherapy or Tai Chi. Each participant attended two one-hour classes per week. The hydrotherapy classes were conducted by registered physiotherapists, and the Tai Chi classes were conducted by instructors trained in a specially designed program. The benefits lasted 12 weeks after the classes concluded.
