One massage therapist and one member of the public—Monica Reno and Ronni Burns—have been elected to the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork’s (NCBTMB) board of directions, the organization announced today.
Monica Reno, NCTMB, was re-elected to her second term on NCBTMB’s Board of Directors. She graduated from the Swedish Institute School of Massage Therapy in New York City in 1984 and later received associate’s degrees from Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York. An NCBTMB volunteer since 1999, Reno has served as an item writer for the National Certification Exam (NCE), was a subject matter expert for the Examination Development Committee for seven years, served on the 2003 Job Task Analysis Task Force, chaired the Research Literature Search Task Force, and was appointed liaison to the School Outreach/Advocacy/Performance Committee and the Spanish Language Examination Task Force.
Ronni Burns was elected to the board as a public member. She is a professor of communications at the Smith School of Business, University of Maryland and the Stern School of Business, New York University. Burns served as a senior executive with Citigroup for 17 years, where her positions included consumer advocate, director of national sales, lobbyist and spokesperson.
The NCBTMB administers a certification exam that may be taken independently and is utilized by some states as a credentialing exam, and there are more than 90,000 professionals with NCBTMB certification.
