Florida Exam Clarification

On May 5 MASSAGE Magazine reported that Florida will adopt the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) on Aug. 1, and will use it exclusively as of May 1, 2009, marking a switch from the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB). On May 8 MASSAGE was contacted by a spokesperson for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork with a clarification regarding the adoption date(s).
Survey Measures National Well-Being

Health insurance, higher income, marriage and social contact all mitigate many of the problems—including pain, feelings of stress and sadness, and low energy—experienced by many Americans. Results of the just-released Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index show that most Americans are struggling to achieve satisfactory health and well-being, and that stressful work environments increase reported sick days.

CO Bill Changed from Licensure to Registration

A bill to regulate massage therapy in Colorado, SB 219 (www.massagemag.com//COBill), is scheduled to be heard by the House Appropriations Committee. According to a statement provided by Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals to MASSAGE Magazine on May 1, the bill went through the legislative wringer and come out looking very different from when it went in.
Florida Adopts New Exam for MTs

Florida will require that new massage therapists seeking state licensure pass the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) as an entry-level competence exam, marking a switch from the state's current use of the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB), the MBLEx's creators announced May 2.
