Karen Menehan is MASSAGE Magazine’s editor in chief – print and digital. She oversees all print and digital editorial content, and also serves in the roles of assigning editor, managing editor, chief copyeditor and fact-checker for the print magazine; as well as assigning editor, social media editor and chief copyeditor for massagemag.com. Menehan also works in the marketing arm of Massage Magazine Insurance Plus, helping to create partnerships, promotions and materials. In her roles, she develops relationships with educators and authors, communicates with readers, networks with massage industry leaders, engages in social networking and SEO best practices, and researches and writes feature stories and news articles. Menehan graduated with an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Cabrillo College in Aptos, California, and with honors from California State University-Sacramento with a degree in Government/Journalism. She has reported or edited freelance for publications including the Sacramento Bee and Mid-County Post newspapers, On the Wing and Imagine magazines, the California chapter of the National Organization for Women and LIVESTRONG. Menehan has served as a Review Committee Member for the Successful Hands Grant Program, on the board of directors for Dawni’s Smile Project, and as a Nonviolent Communication workshop leader. She is a member of ACES: The Society for Editing and the Society of Professional Journalists. She was selected as a judge for the 2021 and 2022 Folio Eddie & Ozzie Awards for national magazine editorial excellence, and was inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame in 2012.
