Nina McIntosh, an author and educator in the massage profession, passed away yesterday from complications related to ALS, according to an online posting from her friend and fellow author Laura Allen.
McIntosh was the author of “The Educated Heart: Professional Boundaries for Massage Therapists and Bodyworkers” and wrote for MASSAGE Magazine on the topic of ethics several years ago.
“She was a friend of mine and a great lady with a dry wit and a good sense of humor, which she managed to maintain in spite of her illness,” Allen wrote on her Facebook posting.
According to the official biography on her website, McIntosh became certified in Rolfing in 1981, practiced as a Rolfer for 25 years and also studied Rosen Method Bodywork. McIntosh received the 2010 Aunty Margaret Humanitarian Award at the World Massage Festival.
