PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., May 1, 2020 — The Doyle Group (thedoylegroup.com), publisher of MASSAGE Magazine, is pleased to congratulate Karen Menehan, MASSAGE Magazine’s editor in chief, on her 25th anniversary with the publication.
Menehan began working in MASSAGE Magazine’s editorial department in 1994, starting as an assistant editor and working her way up to the position of editor in chief. Prior to joining the staff of MASSAGE Magazine, Menehan freelanced for The Sacramento Bee newspaper, On The Wing Magazine, IMAGINE Magazine and LIVESTRONG, reported for the Mid-County Post newspaper for four years, and prior to that held positions in marketing and advertising sales.
MASSAGE Magazine, founded in 1985 by massage therapists Robert and Judi Calvert as the first magazine dedicated to reporting on massage and related touch therapies, is unique in that it is not affiliated with any professional organization. Over the years, Menehan has consistently positioned the magazine as an independent, unbiased voice in the massage therapy community.
Menehan, who was inducted into the World Massage Festival’s Massage Therapy Hall of Fame in 2012, has built a relationship with MASSAGE Magazine’s audience of professional licensed massage therapists as an advocate for their success in their session rooms, businesses and self-care. She interacts on a daily basis with massage continuing education providers and massage therapists via direct email as well as MASSAGE Magazine’s social media channels, including private groups on Facebook and LinkedIn. She also frequently contributes features and news stories to both the magazine and its website, massagemag.com.
“For 25 years, the professional licensed massage therapy community has owed Karen a debt of gratitude. She has been the voice of not just the LMT community but our educators and all of our industry’s stakeholders,” said Joe Doyle, founder and CEO of The Doyle Group. “Karen has been the strict voice of integrity for our profession, never selling out to the latest fad. Karen is the consummate professional.”
Through her work with MASSAGE Magazine, Menehan has forged relationships with many massage product manufacturers and has interviewed several major figures in massage continuing education, including Lynda Solien Wolfe, Til Luchau, Whitney Lowe, Irene Diamond, Gael Wood, James Waslaski, Anita Shannon, Tom Myers, Joe Yoon, Erik Dalton and others.
“I have [had] the pleasure of working with Karen since she started with MASSAGE MAGAZINE 25 years ago. From day one, she showed integrity and talent through her role as editor and always had her finger on the pulse of the massage therapy profession,” said Solien Wolfe. “Congratulations, Karen, on the 25 wonderful years you’ve given to our profession!”
Dalton, executive director of the Freedom From Pain Institute and a frequent contributor to MASSAGE Magazine, said, “Congratulations, Karen — I’ve really enjoyed working with you over the past 20 years and looking forward to 20 more.”
