On Feb. 5, the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) and the Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF) announced a free 2019 Research Webinar Series to further define research, its impact on the profession, and resources for engagement. The first webinar is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at noon Central Time.

According to Douglas Nelson, President, Massage Therapy Foundation: “The first webinar explores the question of why research is essential to the practice of massage therapy. Research insights broaden our understanding of the power and promise of massage therapy, and each new finding invites further curiosity and exploration into the application and mechanisms of the work. Publishing massage research in peer-reviewed journals affords us the ability to share these insights with other health care disciplines, inviting collaboration and shared learning. Ultimately, that which deepens our understanding also deepens the art of massage therapy, facilitating a richer and deeper experience for massage therapists and better outcomes for clients as well.”

The free 2019 NCB/MTF Webinar Series will include topics such as:

  • Why Research? (February 28, 2019)
  • What is Research? (Summer, 2019)
  • How to Find Quality Resources (Fall, 2019)

“NCB and MTF are both deeply committed to advancing standards throughout the massage therapy and bodywork profession,” commented Steve Kirin, CEO, NCBTMB. “Board Certification and research both aim to advance the professional practice of massage in various settings, such as integrative health care, oncology, sports and much more. Such synergies compelled our organizations to further serve the profession by providing additional opportunities to enrich therapists’ understanding of research—what it is, how to find it, evaluate it and apply it to their everyday practice.”
