Massage chains and franchises will increase the availability of massage services to the public. This will help spread the word that massage is good for your health and well-being. However, those same groups will have to make massage affordable to the public, since they will be competing against salons, spas, and other existing massage establishments. In the end, while the public will enjoy massage at an affordable price, the massage therapists will not have a great salary to keep up with an increased workload to match the growing demand for those massage services. Here in Corpus Christi, the best spas in town, do not offer much more than a 25 to 30% commission. And some of those places expect the massage therapists to be available in the establishment for several hours – even if there are very few scheduled appointments for the day. Very few places actually offer a salary, and if they do, even a massage therapist could be working for only $8 an hour! True, for real……… I hope it all works out in the end.
