Celebrity fabric collection boasts brightly colored fabrics made with organic cotton or recycled polyester made from plastic bottles
PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 06, 2009 – Hudson, Ohio — Christie Brinkley, celebrity model and designer, has partnered with Joann Stores to create an eco-friendly collection of fabrics. Launched this spring, the brightly-colored fabrics are made with either organic cotton or recycled polyester that’s made from plastic bottles.
“I wanted fabrics that are great looking and casual, and as a mother of three and longtime environmental advocate, I wanted fabrics that were also environmentally friendly,” says Christie Brinkley (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat1883844). “I was thrilled when Joann Stores asked me to create an exclusive line of sustainable fabrics. It’s important to me to know that I am doing everything I can to insure that our children inherit a healthy environmental future, and supporting organics is a huge step in that direction.”
While Christie Brinkley (http://christiebrinkley.wordpress.com/) is one of America’s most successful models, she also is an accomplished artist, writer, photographer, designer and actress. “Above all, I’m a mom,” says Brinkley. “I still have two young children running around my house, jumping on furniture. I need fabrics that are easy care. The fact that they also are made of sustainable fibers makes them even more appealing.”
Aside from using organic cotton and recycled polyester, printed designs are created using a waterless process, a green method that has virtually no waste water. Brinkley adds, “My e-commitment to this collection is to use eco-sensitive fibers and fabrics to create a collection that combines my love of global design with a distinct American point of view.”
The inspiration for the collection is Christie Brinkley’s Hampton’s beach house where Christie often collects seashells, pieces of driftwood and sea glass, and turns them into works of art. The fabrics in the range include a seersucker stripe, prints on both recycled polyester and an organic cotton blended matelasse. They’re perfect for windows, bedding, decorative pillows, slipcovers, and more. Colors range from beach-glass blues and greens to the rich corals of the sea.
According to Kerry Glasser, founder of New York-based Concept Marketing Group and licensing agent for Christie’s home program, “This is an ideal association for both Jo-ann Stores and Christie because it allows Christie’s design aesthetic and her commitment to the environment to be showcased by a national retailer with a considerable customer base.”
