Massage Publication Supports Runners Raising Funds for Research

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Jacksonville, Florida, April 5, 2023) – Five supporters of massage therapy will be among the estimated 30,000 runners at the 127th Boston Marathon on April 17. They are the members of the Massage Therapy Foundation’s (MTF) Running For Research Team, and in addition to running the marathon, they are raising funds for the MTF.

This year, MASSAGE Magazine donated $300 to sponsor Mile #20, the beginning of Heartbreak Hill—the last and steepest in a series of hills the runners race up during a 26-mile journey that winds through the heart of Boston, passing many historical markers, parks and buildings. Mile #20 is also traditionally when a runner’s energy within muscles is depleted.

Beginning in mid-2022, MASSAGE Magazine began running a column by 2023 MTF Running for Research Team member Marshall Dahneke, in which Dahneke honored his daughter, Jacquelyn Penrose, a former runner who died from breast cancer in 2022. His column also detailed his preparation for the 2023 Boston Marathon, provided self-care advice to readers, and raised funds for the Massage Therapy Foundation. Read his column on MASSAGE Magazine by searching for The Jacquelyn Project in the search bar.

Through the Boston Athletic Association’s Official Charity Program, sponsored by John Hancock, nonprofit organizations are selected to enter runners into the marathon, and those runners pledge to raise funds for their cause. 2023’s Team MTF @RunningForResearch runners for are Marshall Dahneke, Rulon Dahneke, David Gonzalez, Dennis Jones and Theresa Seitz.

“MASSAGE Magazine is honored to once again provide support to the MTF, as it promotes research, education, grants and community service,” said MASSAGE Magazine Editor in Chief Karen Menehan. “Massage research helps the massage field become accepted by the public and by medical professionals, and be better utilized in integrative health care.”
