WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Omaha-based Nebraska Beef is voluntarily recalling about 531,707 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with the bacterium E. coli 0157:H7, the U.S. Agriculture Department said late on Monday.

USDA said the ground beef products were produced between May 19, 2008, and June 24, 2008. The shipping containers and product labels bear the establishment number “EST. 19336” inside the USDA inspection mark, USDA said.

The beef was distributed to processing plants in Colorado, Nebraska and Texas and to wholesalers in Illinois, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania, the federal agency said.

No illnesses have been reported.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause diarrhea and dehydration. Children, the elderly and people with weak immune systems are the most susceptible.
