As a massage therapist, author, community-service enthusiast, wife, mother and past national president of the American Massage Therapy Association, Laurel J. Freeman, L.M.T., has worn many hats.

One of the largest is that of co-founder, with her husband, Howard, of STOP! Children’s Cancer, Inc., an organization committed to the prevention, control and cure of cancer in children. In 1981, their 12-year-old daughter Bonnie lost her fight with cancer. Since its founding, the organization has been responsible for contributions in excess of $3.5 million dollars to fund pediatric cancer research.

For her dedication to massage therapy and children’s health, Freeman was presented the Performance Health Humanitarian Award at this year’s Florida State Massage Therapy Association (FSMTA) Annual Convention in Orlando in July.

“Performance Health is very pleased to be able to recognize Laurel for her efforts, and is thankful to the FSMTA for allowing us to present this award to her,” said Bob Poirier, Vice President of Commercial Operations for Performance Health Inc., upon making the award.

Performance Health/Hygenic Corporation is the manufacturer and marketer of Biofreeze, Prossage and Thera-Band health-and-wellness products. Each year the company honors an individual in the massage therapy industry for his or her efforts in improving the welfare of clients and demonstrating selfless devotion to others.

In addition to honoring Freeman, Performance Health/Hygenic Corporation will donate $500 to STOP! Children’s Cancer, Inc.
