My business has not been affected by massage chains or franchises, because my clientele are looking for an educated, dedicated good massage therapist, not a run of the mill person that will work for low wages and bring the salaries down for those that do work in spas. I have an established reputation that I’ve earned and would never lower my standards to work at Massage Envy or any other low paying enterprise. It’s a shame that so many people don’t realize how those franchises have demeaned our profession by paying them a mere $15.00/hr for starters. Essentially, those LMTs that do work in high end spas might find a loss in business due to the lower prices of franchises. However, for those of us that have a high end clientele, well it’s not a problem.
