In response to questions from MASSAGE Magazine, a representative of the California Massage Therapy Council has confirmed that an amendment to bill AB 1822, which would shift regulation of the state’s massage therapists from a voluntary statewide credential back to local entities, would exempt those massage therapists certified through the council from local law enforcement background checks. The representative also confirmed the exemption would affect both current and future certificants.
