FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Woodland Park, Colorado (Oct. 17, 2022) Massage therapist Lyla Keeler has been awarded a patent for the massage table she designed, the LMT1, making her the first female to receive a patent for a massage table.

Keeler is currently looking for a manufacturer or lease rights to manufacture her unique table.

At the age of 26, Keeler started her massage career by attending Southeastern Career College in Nashville, Tennessee, back when the common knowledge was that a massage career could last between three and seven years. “I can remember sitting in the admissions office thinking, ‘that’s a lot of money for a short career span,’” said Keeler. “I knew there had to be a better way.”

In 2004, while working at her practice in Manitou Springs, Colorado, an idea sparked: Seven unique ergonomic cutouts is what makes the LMT1 unique. “I needed a table to help me achieve maximum results for structural correction,” Keeler said.

The LMT1 is not your standard rectangle massage table (view a photo of the table here):

• The two cutouts around the headrest were designed with the intention to allow a practitioner to access and complete anterior and posterior neck and shoulder treatments, whereas another table would block or stop a hand, forearms or feet from completing a movement.

• The ergonomic cutout in the center of the table on both sides makes it easier to work core muscles by keeping the practitioner close to the table, with less risk of shoulder injuries; for example, hyperextension and instability of the joints or muscles.

• Standing at the foot of the table you would see a cutout for the feet to stabilize or make circumduction rotation of the ankle or planter, or dorsiflexion or planter flexibility.

• Lastly, you will see a center cutout. This is where a practitioner would place a client on their side, bringing the bottom leg toward the stomach and dropping the top leg to view or evaluate anterior or posterior pelvic tilt, or to stretch even further by bringing the arm over the head.
