Massage Envy announced this week the signing of its 1,200th franchise agreement.
“It’s been a tremendously successful growth year for Massage Envy Spa in 2013,” said Joe Luongo, Massage Envy Spa chief operating officer, in a press release. “There are thousands of franchise brands across the country, but only a small percentage ever surpasses the 1,200-unit mark. This incredible milestone is a true testament to our franchise partners and unique concept.”
Massage Envy’s parent company is Roark Capital Group, which also owns Cinnabon, Arby’s, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Il Fornaio restaurants, Schlotzsky’s delis, and many other franchise businesses.
The Massage Envy Spa franchising system cumulatively employs more licensed or registered massage therapists than any other company in the world, with at least 21,000 therapists providing more than 16 million massages a year to a total of more than 1.4 million members, according to the press release.
“Just 2.4 percent of franchised brands operate 1,000 or more franchised units, according to FRANdata, the franchise industry’s source for objective information and analysis,” the press release noted. “With more than 920 operating units and the signing of its 1,200th agreement, Massage Envy Spa is on its way to being one of the largest franchise systems in the country.”
